Recently, we gathered some of the key churches in the Houston area for a roundtable discussion on church communications. The group was made up of church communicators, a lead pastor, and an administrative pastor. Each one was looking to gain insight to help them communicate more effectively with their communities. They brought their own experience and challenges with the goal of helping each other grow.
Working as a church professional is a great job to have, but oftentimes, it’s hard to see past your church’s next event or sermon series. Getting out of your day-to-day and learning from other church professionals can give you perspective and help you share ideas with others who understand exactly how you feel.
What Is Conclave?
Conclave is a church conference tailored especially for communications professionals. We strongly believe in the benefit of shared knowledge, and that’s one of the reasons we host Conclave.

Throughout the two days we were able to explore what was working in each church, while also surfacing potential solutions to the many challenges communicators face. Everyone had insightful things to share from how to get leadership buy-in, to establishing communication priorities.
"It was great getting a completely different perspective. I've been to other conferences but this was different. I was able to share ideas and gain insight from other churches who have a different way of communicating." - Mason Waldvogel
A few topics surfaced around growing pains. Many of the churches were in transition, either ramping up campaigns to expand their church’s ability to serve the community or expanding into additional locations.
“I loved being able to connect with other church communicators. The event had people from many different churches and being able to hear how they are working through their communications efforts was helpful,”- BJ McGeever, Communication Director at Faith Bible Church added.
One of the biggest things each attendee took away was a greater connection to church leaders in their area.
Having the opportunity to meet and interact with others who understand their thought process, decisions, and role in ministry was a major benefit for all of the participants at Conclave: Houston. Through this experience, churches that have gone through similar situations had the opportunity to interact and can now reach out to each other for support.
