Easter weekend has always been a big celebration for my whole family––both my actual family and my church family. I think fondly of beautiful services, candles, bonfires, sunrise worship, long choir practices, beautiful prayers, tasty feasting, and joyful fellowship at church and at home as we celebrate our Risen Lord. Easter is one of my favorite seasons. The time is so rich and and fulfilling. As church leaders and staff, it is our pleasure and our duty to help facilitate that time for our church family. I hope all of you look forward and help your congregations look forward to Easter as much as I do.

1. Share your sermon on your website
Worship Center did a beautiful job a few years ago featuring their Easter sermons on their website along with videos and other content. A lot of churches share their sermons online (and that’s a great idea), but Worship Center added more value to theirs with a two-sermon Easter series. By adding a 2013 Easter theme, “Receive, Reflect, Rise,” it really helped their celebration pack a bigger punch. And now, people can return to their website any time to remember and easily “reflect” on that particular celebration.
2. Make Easter a featured event AND treat it like one
It’s probably a given that your church will have an Easter Sunday service. After all, you have a service every Sunday, anyway!
But Easter isn’t just like any other Sunday. Christ is risen, and that calls for at least a little extra attention. The River Community Church and Woodridge Church have both featured their Easter Sunday services on their events page, with a gorgeous feature image to tie it off. This is a special treatment that gives some extra oomph to such a wonderful day. Consider adding this event to your homepage, too.
3. Re-emphasize the importance of Easter
We all know that on this special day, we commemorate the resurrection. But do you remember when you didn't know? Whether it’s a sunrise service at a nearby hilltop or an Easter egg hunt in the parking lot, there’s more going on than just what people can see. Use this opportunity to publish some blog posts or articles about the deeper meaning of Easter and how to celebrate it.
One of my recent favorite reads was this article by Village Church. It discusses the power of the Gospel, how captivating the story of Jesus is, and how His Resurrection can have a powerful impact on us all. Plus, it might give you an idea about how to connect with the younger or newer members of your church family and make sure they also know why as well as what’s going on.
4. Make a prayer wall for engagement
A prayer wall is another opportunity to build a more personal connection with individual members of your church while also embracing the power of prayer in your church family. We love College Park Church’s prayer wall because it keeps the anonymity of these prayer needs but shows how many times a prayer has been made in honor of that person’s post.

5. Put it all in one easy-to-find page
Calvary Church sets an great example of how helpful and easy it should be to find your Easter events––they’ve placed theirs right in their navigation menu.
For your Easter events page, be sure to feature more than just the time and date of your events leading up to Sunday. You can include all of your related content: blog posts, articles, events, prayers, and whatever you do to make your celebrations personal to your church. You might want to post a count-down, as well!
